PCFA at Tucson Meet Yourself!
Despite the unseasonably warm temperatures, PCFA was out in force at Tucson Meet Yourself from October 4th through the 6th. Tucson Meet Yourself is an annual celebration of the living traditional arts of Southern Arizona’s and Northern Mexico’s diverse communities. The free, three-day event features hundreds of artisans, food vendors, cooking demonstrations, dance performances, musical shows and special exhibits that celebrate the unique and special culture of the Sonoran desert.
We shared our table with the UA Food Systems Research lab, who were coordinating a community art project. We asked one question to folks who stopped by - what nourishes you?
This question was asked because while we know that a sustainable and equitable food system is critical for healthy communities, traditional research methods often fail to capture the full complexity of individual and community values that shape these systems. By using art and drawing as a medium for asking an important question, we hope to understand more broadly what people value and love in their community.
